Ivory Lodge: A standalone safari experience

A standalone safari experience

When choosing a safari, we’d caution you not to base your decision on price alone. There are so many factors which contribute to the perfect African safari experience, and we practice the principle of VALUE over price (obviously respecting our guests’ personal budgets too).

Lion Sands is worth every penny spent and we hope very much to return one day.” [Tripadvisor]

Classified as one of Africa’s Ultimate Private Lodges, Lion Sands Ivory Lodge has earned its place among the best of the best at the top of the South African Safari Pyramid. We take a look at what it is that makes Ivory Lodge such a standalone experience.

Location. Location. Location

Between game drives we relaxed on our deck and watched “bush TV” – the wildlife that visited the river was incredible.” [Tripadvisor]

Built at the confluence of two perennial rivers, the Sabie River and the Sand River, you’d be challenged to find a better spot to place yourself while on safari. From your private pool or under the shade of the mammoth Mahogany Tree on the communal deck, you’ll be treated to sightings of the Big Five (or Magnificent Seven, including the wild dog and the cheetah) and a myriad of other animal species drawn to the water. At Ivory Lodge, you need not leave the lodge to appreciate the wildlife…

ALL the Bells ‘n Whistles

After now 29 years of luxury safari in Africa, I am confident that I have found one of the most brilliant efforts of lodge design and construction on the Continent.” [Tripadvisor]

Your private Villa has been designed with every creature comfort in mind; from king sized bed, to outdoor shower, to private deck and pool. From Nespresso machine, to fully stocked fridge and mini-bar – you’ll want for nothing. And should you have the particular taste for something out of the ordinary, like a chilled glass of your favourite Champagne, just give your dedicated Concierge a call. The Ivory Lodge Team is as near or far as you need them to be.

EVERYTHING is included

“Ivory Lodge had one final surprise for me when we checked out. No extras. Surprised I protested ”but we had an excellent wine with every lunch and dinner“ “it’s complimentary” ”We ate from the minibar“ “It’s complimentary” “I sent a week’s washing to the laundry” “All complimentary”. I was left with the impression that if you stole a jeep somebody would say “It’s complimentary”” [Tripadvisor]

Everybody who worked there seemed interested in us and in making our experience enjoyable. Everybody from the chambermaids to the manager always asked how we were and made time to engage in meaningful conversation.” [Tripadvisor]

A Private Safari

And the game drives were beyond anything I could have imagined. We saw the big 5 on day 1 and saw at least 3 of the 5 plus more the remainder of our days including 3 separate leopard sightings getting within feet of them, and even up close and personal with a male lion! Kenneth and Eddie, our safari guide and tracker were exceptional.” [Tripadvisor]

With never more than six people per safari vehicle, visitors are treated to the ultimate private safari on a massive piece of pristine land on which no other properties traverse. Close contact game viewing in the company of Field Guides & Trackers in a league of their own (Lion Sands boasts one of the world’s ONLY Master Trackers), the quality of your game viewing experience and the manner in which you get to connect with this untouched African wilderness is second-to-none.

Your own exclusive safari home

Our personal butler, Ben, made coffee appear in our rooms via a hatch in our kitchen at 6 am and the menus for breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner were incredible, the food gourmet and delicious and choices outstanding. The villa was fully stocked with snacks, drinks, alcohol and mixers, wine and beer. We could eat overlooking the river or in our huge villa. Meriam, our villa housekeeper, kept our villa spotless and left us cheerful notes on a chalkboard day and evening.” [Tripadvisor]

The Fish Eagle Villa is for the guest, family or group of friends who prefer privacy. It has two en-suite bedrooms; lounge, dining area and kitchen; lap pool and star jetty; double-treatment spa and mini-gym. With its own chef, butler and Field Guide, as well as private safari vehicle, this experience is in a class of its own.
